Go to Mihintale, which is thought to be the birthplace of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. There are historic stupas and beautiful vistas there. Continue on to the Ritigala Forest Monastery, an ambient archeological and ecological site in the middle of a thick jungle, perfect for easy hiking and exploring. Habarana to Anuradhapura

Go north to Anuradhapura, the earliest historic capital of Sri Lanka.
